Nobody seems to know exactly when this clown entered the family.
The best guess is that it was purchased sometime in the 1960s or 70s, possibly as a souvenir or gag gift. It is lightweight, molded, brightly painted, and by all appearances was never meant to be anything more than a cheap decorative object. Which makes its longevity somewhat difficult to explain.
Over the years, the clown reportedly moved from house to house with the same family despite repeated attempts to throw it away, donate it, or leave it behind during moves. At least twice, relatives remembered putting it into a donation box only to find it back among their belongings days later.
One family member claimed it was once thrown directly into the garbage. Several months later, it appeared in a box of Christmas decorations. No one admitted retrieving it. Eventually, the family stopped trying to get rid of it and kept it on a shelf in the basement. That apparently worked until one morning when it was found upstairs on the kitchen counter.
After that, it was stored in a closed cabinet. When the house was finally emptied, the clown was sitting on top of the cabinet.

Temperament: Cheerful. Persistent. Difficult to dispose of.
Protective Reputation: According to the story attached to him, the clown’s usefulness lies in distraction. One former owner believed that troublesome spirits are easily confused by noise, absurdity, and attention-seeking objects. The clown was supposedly kept near an entrance for exact that reason. The idea was simple: anything unpleasant trying to enter the house would notice him first. Whether that theory has any merit is unknown. The family did, however, maintain one rule: keep him entertained. Move him occasionally. Play music near him. Tell him a joke. Put him somewhere new for the evening. He apparently becomes “restless” when ignored for too long.
Suggested care: Brief entertainment once in a while. Applause optional. A properly amused clown keeps unwanted entities confused, distracted, and outside.
